Poland StageTroupe will present parody of Bard’s works

AUBURN — The Central Maine Community College Lakeside Players will present the Poland Stage Troupe production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

This fast-paced show is a parody of plays written by William Shakespeare, with just three actors performing them all in shortened form.

Actors speak directly to the audience during much of the play, and some scenes involve audience participation.

The script contains many humorous footnotes on the text that are often not included in the performance. However, improvisation plays an important role, with actors sometimes deviating from the script and conversing spontaneously about the material with each other or the audience.

The actors often make references to pop culture or talk about local people and places. As a result, each performance can be different, even with the same cast.

This production, directed by Alexandra Wright and D’Arcy Robinson, will be at 4 p.m. in Kirk Hall Auditorium on the CMCC campus, 1250 Turner St. Admission is free.
