BUCKFIELD — Police said they are investigating why a Hartford woman’s car crossed the centerline on Route 117 on Sunday before hitting a tractor-trailer truck head-on.
Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant identified the dead woman as 30-year-old Nichole Byron.
Byron was traveling east near the Turner town line when her Plymouth PT Cruiser collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Kenneth Jamison, 48, of South Paris, Gallant said in a news release Monday. Jamison was taken to a Lewiston hospital for evaluation. There were no other passengers in the 3:30 p.m. crash.
“The investigation is ongoing as to why the vehicle traveling east on Route 117 on a corner crossed the centerline into the path of the tractor-trailer,” Gallant said.
On Monday, Jenny Byron wrote on her Facebook page that her sister “was taken too young.”
“To say, I miss you, is an understatement. I love you. Even though we haven’t talked in awhile, I have always loved you. Now, I’ll never get the chance. Let this be a lesson we can all learn from. Tell your loved ones how you feel cause you may never get the chance again. I love you, Nikki. I’m just so lost for words,” Byron wrote. “It’s still so unreal.”
