PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A report says the Portland Pirates minor league hockey team will stay in the city.
The Portland Press Herald says the trustees of the Cumberland County Civic Center are expected to vote Wednesday on a new lease agreement with the American Hockey League team.
Pirates CEO Brian Petrovek says it’s his expectation that the team will announce the new agreement.
The Pirates’ lease with the Cumberland County Civic Center expires at the end of April. Petrovek had been in negotiations to move the team to Albany, N.Y.
The Pirates are affiliated with the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres.
