NORWAY — During the months of January and February, area artists used the Commons Art Collective Gallery as open studio space.
Judy Schneider’s turnips, in vibrant pastels, have grown layer by layer on the walls. Julia Gonsalves began with a blank white canvas onto which two beautiful floor mats have evolved.
Katey Branch began with a lump of clay on a potter’s wheel. Mary Brooking tried something new by tacking four pieces of handmade paper onto the wall and using them as her canvas.
Their creative efforts — along with those of Anne Bernard, Don Best, Erica Carson, Janet Montgomery, Lisa Moore, OmDevi Reynolds and Cyndy Tinsley — were expressed during the third annual “Process” show.
An exhibit displaying their works, “Process II: Evolution,” will open at the gallery with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5.
Moore, a poet who started with three topics and changed her mind a dozen times, will read three new poems at the opening.
Working in the studio space together provides the artists with an opportunity for sharing thoughts, ideas and processes with one another.
To engage community members in “Process,” flags have been hung in the window, in the spirit of Tibetan prayer flags. Anyone is welcome to take a blank flag and add words and images to create a prayer or blessing.
The gallery is at 443 Main St.
