Program creation to be considered

JAY – School Committee members are scheduled to discuss creating and staffing a prekindergarten program today as well as eliminating six positions.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Middle School.

The $10.5 million school budget passed last month by voters included money to support a prekindergarten program for 4-year-olds.

Superintendent Robert Wall recommends the program be approved along with advertising and hiring a prekindergarten teacher and a prekindergarten education technician II for the program.

Wall is also recommends eliminating several positions: one kindergarten teacher position, one Title 1A reading teacher position, three middle-school positions and one high school position.

On the addition side, Wall recommends advertising and hiring a music position and a systemwide technology support assistant position.
