DIXFIELD — The Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10 board approved transportation for three Project Graduation events set to begin after the district’s high schools hold graduations.
Superintendent Tom Ward said Mountain Valley High School graduates will leave for Boothbay Harbor Recreation immediately after the June 12 graduation. Buckfield High School graduates will travel to the Waterville YMCA on the night of June 12, and Dirigo High School graduates will go to St. Joseph’s College after their June 11 graduation.
Each class will return early the next day.
In other matters at Monday’s night board meeting, several staff changes were announced. The current Dirigo Region social worker, Jessica Swan, will become the RSU’s new psychological service provider. Dirigo High School educational technician Patricia Holman resigned from her special education position.
At Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, Melissa Knauer was hired as the new special education teacher.
The board also heard a report on a trip to the Dominican Republic last month taken by Spanish teacher Amity Beane, several of her students, and four chaperones.
Ward said many of the students viewed the trip as life-changing because they learned the value of all that they have compared with the island nation.
