This country has gone to hell in a handbasket.
We elected officials to represent us in Washington, D.C. We pay their salaries, give them free transportation, postage and free health insurance. They have just recently voted themselves a pay raise, at a time when senior citizens on Social Security are not going to get a cost-of-living increase for the next two years.
With all those benefits, they cannot seem to pass any legislation at all and are being criticized by other members of their own party for being bipartisan and for trying to help the other party pass something that is good for their state and the country.
It seems there are only a few Republicans, including our two senators from Maine, who really care about making sure this country survives. The rest just want to line their pockets with lobbyists’ money.
True, those officials are entitled to their opinions and, sometimes, may not agree with the legislation. But regardless of being Republican or Democrat, they should vote for the good of the country.
I don’t agree with everything President Obama is doing, but he took over a big mess and is trying to help this country survive.
I say to our elected officials, let’s put politics aside for once and work together and help our nation survive.
