How can this be? On April 20, the Sun Journal ran an article with the headline: “Mexico man admits raping girl two times” (although the article goes on to say he had been indicted on 16 counts of rape). The girl was under age 14. This man (and I use that noun loosely in this instance) was sentenced to one year in prison.
On April 22, the Sun Journal ran an article headlined: “Bates rapist gets 20 years.” The article states that the judge “could only impose up to 20 years”
I would like to know how these two sentences for such heinous crimes could be so extremely different. It certainly makes me question the process of justice.
