Quitter become winners during annual program

LEWISTON — Healthy Androscoggin’s 11th annual Quit and Win celebration was held on March 11 at Bates College. More than 60 participants, helpers and family members gathered to celebrate their success in taking the first step in living tobacco-free.

Healthy Androscoggin staff and coalition volunteers were on hand to congratulate those who had stopped smoking with the Quit and Win program. Participants were invited to register for prize drawings, which included gift certificates donated by local businesses. The grand prizes included cash awards for both program participants and their helpers.

Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert spoke at the event and helped award the prizes. Gilbert shared his own story of quitting smoking and encouraged them to continue their commitment to being tobacco-free.

Cash prize winners were Daniel Delcourt of Auburn, $500; Linda Lajoie of Mechanic Falls, $250; and Stacie Farrell of Auburn, $100. The $200 bonus award for calling the Maine Tobacco Helpline went to Kathleen Tardif of Lewiston.
