Rabbits will hop into young children’s imaginations

PORTLAND — Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will bring its whimsical puppetry, dreamlike imagery, original music and soothing bunny banter to South Portland High School on Saturday, March 20.

The theater company will stage “Goodnight Moon” and “The Runaway Bunny,” puppet-theater presentations of Margaret Wise Brown’s popular children’s books.

Performances are geared toward children ages 2 through 7.

In “Goodnight Moon,” a young bunny bids goodnight to everything around him, from his toys and telephone to paintings of fairy tale characters on the wall.

“The Runaway Bunny” revolves around a little rabbit who imagines all the different ways he could leave home, while his mother reassures she’ll find him, no matter where he pretends to go.

The shows will be at 11 a.m. in the school auditorium, courtesy of Portland Ovations.

Tickets, $10, may be obtained by calling PortTix at 842.0800; online at www.portlandovations.org or at South Portland Auditorium day of show, subject to availability.
