Rachel E. Ouellette


LEWISTON – Sister Rachel E. Ouellette, 86, of 102 Campus Ave., Lewiston, died Monday, May 29, at d’Youville Pavilion after a long illness.

She was born in St. Agatha, on April 28, 1920, the daughter of Emil and Laura (Michaud) Ouellette. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Van Buren and then entered the Ursuline Community.

As a young religious, she started at the College of New Rochelle, N.Y., obtaining a degree in English and drama in 1948. In 1959 she got her master’s degree in counseling and psychology at the Catholic University of Washington in Washington D.C.

She was a teacher and taught in several areas including Winslow, Waterville, Sanford, Dedham, Mass. and Springfield, Mass. She also held leadership positions both in schools and in communities.

She had produced over 40 major plays in span of 25 to 30 years. She will be remembered by her students as a dynamic and loving teacher.

She is survived by one sister, Corinne Picard of Waterville; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother; and a sister.
