RANGELEY — The Select Board granted permits Monday for the annual freestyle snowmobile event, Boss Power Equipment Rave X 2015, and for Snodeo 2015, sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club.
In a separate motion the board also approved the Snodeo’s Casino Night, held at the Gingerbread House in Oquossoc, which must also be approved by the state.
Fire Chief and acting Town Manager Tim Pellerin said he has ordered low-ceiling fireworks for the Snodeo, which can be set off at lower altitudes if winds are a problem, which they were the past two years.
Pellerin said the Fire Department has been training with the four new buoyancy suits used in water rescues.
The board agreed to write a letter of support for the Community Concepts program for mutual self-help for first-time home builders and buyers.
The board also approved the first reading a policy for acceptance of donations. According to the proposal, board approval is not needed for any donations of less than $100,000, but such donations must be reported to the board quarterly.
Mindy Cyr from Maine Municipal Auditing Services was named the town’s auditor for fiscal year 2014-15.
Pellerin reported that this year’s final cost for the High Street/School Street resurfacing project came to $514,167.51, and that pickup tasks in the spring may bring the total to between $520,000 and $530,000. The town had budgeted $550,000 for the project.
Pellerin also said that approximately 120 kids attended last Sunday’s Christmas party at the Fire House, with all the kids receiving presents and having their picture taken with Santa.
