Rangeley teen charged in Vermont sex case

RANGELEY – A Rangeley teen has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl from Vermont that he met on the Internet on MySpace.com.

Vermont police are expected to pick up Chad Alexander, 19, at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.

State Police Trooper Peter Michaud said Monday he arrested Alexander on a Vermont warrant May 9 and charged him with two counts of sexual assault of a minor under 16.

Alexander is listed as a fugitive from justice on the Franklin County jail arrest log.

Alexander was ordered to court on a Maine charge of aggravated furnishing of a scheduled drug, marijuana, to the 15-year-old girl.

Alexander is accused of going to Vermont and picking up the girl and having sex with her in late April.

The girl was reported missing after failing to get home in time to meet a curfew. She had last been seen in a vehicle with Maine license plates. Police found her two days later.

Maine state police took her to the Franklin County jail in Farmington where a Vermont transport officer picked her up and returned her to that state.
