RANGELEY — A Rangeley woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with torching her and her soon-to-be ex-husband’s property on Allen Street on March 7.
Kelly Bachelder, 46, of 45 Pleasant St. was arrested at her workplace, where she is self-employed as a nail technician, state fire marshal investigator Edward Hastings said. She was taken to the Franklin County Jail in Farmington and booked on one count of arson, he said. She is being held on $50,000 cash bail, a jail official said.
Hastings said Bachelder co-owned the home and storage building with her husband, Odie Bachelder of Langtown Township. The couple are going through a divorce, he said.
The fire was reported in the late afternoon on Sunday, March 7. It heavily damaged the house and destroyed a barn and attached shed used to store plumbing and heating supplies, and tools, said Fire Chief Rudy Davis. When firefighters responded they found the barn and shed engulfed in flames, he said.
Kelly Bachelder is expected to be arraigned in court Thursday, a jail official said.
