LEWISTON – Zak Ray broke Bates College’s career assist record Tuesday night in the Bobcats’ 75-57 men’s basketball victory over Emmanuel.
The Bobcats (15-2) outrebounded the Saints (6-9) by a 45-35 margin and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to create a 20-6 advantage in second-chance points en route to their fourth straight win.
Ray had 13 points and eight assists to leapfrog Herb Taylor on the all-time assist list. Taylor set the mark in 1984. Ray now has 501 assists. Senior Rob Stockwell added a team-high 14 points and first-year Chris Wilson scored 11. Emmanuel’s Mack Spellman scored a game-high 18 points.
USM 73, UMass-Boston 60
GORHAM – Drew Coppenrath poured in 22 points and had 10 rebounds as the University of Southern Maine posted a 73-60 win over the University of Massachusetts at Boston Tuesday in men’s basketball action.
Foster Oakley added 19 points, while Josh Daniels chipped in with 15 points and six assists for the Huskies (6-11, 2-6) win.
The UMass-Boston (6-11, 2-6) effort was led by Tony Barros with 21 points and Rodney Bennett with 10.
Colby 69, Husson 65
BANGOR – Tracy Nale scored 21 points and nailed three of Colby’s five 3-pointers Tuesday to spark the White Mules to a 69-65 women’s basketball win over Husson.
Katie McCabe added 17 points and eight rebounds for Colby (5-11). Alison Cappelloni chipped in 15 points. Crystal Martin led the Eagles (7-7) with 18 points. New Gloucester’s Annie McIntosh added 12.
USM 89, UMass-Boston 62
GORHAM – Ashley Marble delivered her 11th double-double of the season Tuesday night with 21 points and 10 rebounds, leading the University of Southern Maine women’s basketball team to its 14th straight win, 89-62, over the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Angela Santa Fe added 13 points and Stacey Kent 11 for the Huskies (16-1, 8-0 Little East). Kent dished out eight assists. LaKeisha Tucker paced UMass-Boston (10-7, 5-3) with 20 points, while Caroline Ashe amassed 15.
