1934 – 2016
POLAND — Raymond H. Felker Sr., 82, of Poland died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 21, at his home in Poland.
He was born Jan. 2, 1934, at the family homestead off Tripp Lake in Poland, a son of Herbert and Alice (Strout) Felker. He attended West Poland and Mechanic Falls schools, graduating from Mechanic Falls High School in 1954 and later enlisting in the U.S. Army.
On May 7, 1960, he married Mary Lou LaRose Wing in Mechanic Falls, sharing over 50 wonderful years together.
As a young man, Raymond really enjoyed his work on the family farm, tending to the day-to-day chores and hunting. After his return from the service, he worked at AC Lawrence Leather in South Paris, Marcal Paper in Mechanic Falls and Snow’s Tire in Auburn. The majority of his working career, however, was in auto body repair. He opened up his own business at one point during the mid-1960s and later at various shops in the Portland area.
Raymond enjoyed trips to Bar Harbor with his wife, Mary, particularly raking blueberries on Cadillac Mountain, camping, watching the Red Sox, “wheeling and dealing” cars, and the company of his dogs, especially Cocoa.
He is survived by his four sons, Mark Wing and his wife, Rolande, of Auburn, Kerry Felker and his wife, Laurie, of Auburn, Ralph Felker and his girlfriend, Debbie Chase, of Poland and Auburn, and Raymond Felker Jr. of Limerick; a daughter, Linda L. Sawyer and her husband, Scott, of Mechanic Falls; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife on March 11, 2012; three sisters, Beatrice, Evelyn and Leona; three brothers, Irving, Herbert and Charles.
His family wishes to thank Joanne Churchill; and grandsons, Tony and Tory for their loving care during his final days.
