TOGUS — Raymond J. Stewart, 84, of Lisbon Falls, passed away early Saturday morning, April 10, at the V.A. Hospital, with family at his side.

He was born in Waterbury, Conn. May 19, 1925, the son of the late Harry and Julia (Southard) Stewart. He lived in Naugatuck, Conn. for many years before retiring to Lisbon Falls. He was a military veteran, having served his country in the army during World War II and was a past commander of the American Legion Post 17 in Naugatuck, Conn. Ray worked many years as a machinist at Hershey Metals in Ansonia, Conn., and also worked for a time at the former Shop ‘n Save in Topsham. He enjoyed bowling, and for many years participated in the Platt’s Mills Bowling League in Waterbury, Conn. Ray also enjoyed the company of his cat “Natasha.”

He leaves his loving wife of 37 years, Bernadette Stewart, of Lisbon Falls; a son, Raymond J. Stewart Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Naugatuck, Conn.; three daughters, Sandra Stewart of Waterbury, Conn., Gayle Gourley and husband, Bruce, of Waterbury, Conn., and Susan Cross and husband, Paul, of Watertown, Conn.; two stepdaughters, Patricia White and husband, Kenneth, of Manchester, Conn., and Maureen Berry and husband, Steven, of Saco; four grandchildren, Alexandra Cross, Samantha Cross, Natalie Berry of Saco, and Matthew Berry of Denver, Colo.; a brother, David Stewart of Prospect, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Clifford, Harry and Carl; and three sisters, Virginia, Gladys and Effa.
