YARMOUTH — The American Cancer Society of Maine has announced that, to date, 24 Maine men have stepped up in the second annual Real Men Wear Pink campaign. These Real Men Wear Pink “ambassadors” were revealed at a kick-off reception Sept. 7.

Matt Kennedy, American Cancer Society event manager, said, “They’ve all agreed to wear pink throughout October, help educate others (about) breast cancer and help find a cure. This year, 252,710 women and additional men are likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. It’s great to see a group of men step up to be leaders in the fight to eradicate this disease.”

The American Cancer Society will engage and empower the community leaders throughout this campaign. Some of the ambassadors have already started challenging each other in friendly competitions to be the top fundraiser among the other candidates by the October end of the campaign.

Maine Real Men Wear Pink ambassadors from the local area include Peter Steenstra, head rowing coach, Bates College; Kevin Lewis, president and CEO, Community Health Options; and Chris Brassbridge, vice president, retail market manager, TD Bank.
