Recall vote for Poland selectmen is Thursday

POLAND — Voters will decide Thursday whether three of the town’s selectmen should be removed from office.

Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Town Hall.

A month ago the full Board of Selectmen accepted a citizen recall petition, signed by nearly 200 residents, that sought the removal of Selectmen Jim Fernald, Larry Moreau and Wendy Sanborn.

The petitioners accused the three of violating their oaths of office by not following procedures outlined in the town’s charter when they fired former Town Manager Rosemary Kulow, following an Oct. 16 executive session.

At a public hearing on the matter Dec. 18, selectmen said that due to personnel confidentiality they couldn’t comment on the specific reasons for her firing.

Selectmen did state, however, that Kulow had been legally terminated under terms of her employment agreement.

Voters will be able to vote whether to recall each of the three selectmen.
