FARMINGTON – Adam Redmun homered and Kyle Giguere held off a late Mt. Blue rally as Edward Little pulled off a 5-3 win in KVAC baseball action Saturday.
Bobby Duley’s single scored Adam Gilbert to bring Mt. Blue within two.
But Giguere, who scattered six hits and fanned three to earn the complete game victory, stranded the tying and winning runs on base in the seventh inning.
Redmun collected a pair of hits, including a solo shot in the fourth, and drove in two for the Red Eddies (9-6). Tyler Snowe also had a pair of hits. Gilbert had two hits and two runs scored while taking the loss on the mound for the Cougars (8-7).
RANGELEY – Starting pitcher Ben Bliss scattered eight hits for two runs, belted a solo home run in the third and finished with two hits to lead Rangeley to a 5-2 victory over Greenville in a baseball doubleheader Saturday.
Kent Madeira and Zeke Hall each doubled for Rangeley. Corey Woodbury had a pair of hits for Greenville.
In Game 2, Luke Hammond had four hits, including a home run and a double to power Rangeley to a 12-2 win.
Ben Bliss and David Raymond had three hits apiece, while Zeke Hall doubled twice for Rangeley (9-4).
Jeff Farrington took the loss on the mound for Greenville.
Poland 3, Wells 0
WELLS – Joe Douglass had a fine pitching performance and crossed the plate for two of the Knights’ runs as Poland came away with a 3-0 shutout victory over Wells in WMC baseball action Saturday.
Douglas led off the fourth inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent Cary to put the Knights (10-4) on the board first.
Again in the sixth inning, Douglas led off with a walk, stole second and scored when Tyler Merchant’s hit was misplayed by the Warriors (5-10). Merchant later scored on a perfectly executed squeeze play by Jason Lehr to round out the scoring.
The Warriors outhit the Knights by a margin of 5-2.
Cape Elizabeth 17, St. Dom’s 3
AUBURN – Evin Bagley netted a game-high five goals to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 17-3 victory over St. Doms in boys’ lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Capers received a pair of goals from Mike Holden, Dave Gardner and Jim Wilcox. Goaltender Eric Knight made 10 saves in net for Cape Elizabeth (6-5).
Tavian MacKinnon, Ben Adams and Ben Landry scored a goal apiece for St. Doms (7-4).
Poland 4, Wells 1
WELLS – Katie Simpson and Cortney Clark each hit RBI singles to spark a four-run fourth inning as Poland upended Wells 4-1 in WMC softball Saturday.
Warrior starter Hannah Knight only allowed three hits in the game, but the Knights made her pay.
Wells (10-5) got seven hits in the game off winning pitcher Kelli O’Connor, but could only manage one run.
O’Connor struck out five and walked none, pitching out of jams in the sixth and seventh innings to close out Wells. Kristen Simpson helped her pitcher with a running catch in the outfield to rob the Warriors of extra bases.
RANGELEY – The pitching matchup remained the same, but the outcome was different as Greenville and Rangeley split an EWC softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Rangeley ran away with the first game 12-4, and Greenville took the second game 6-4.
In the opener, Angela White had three of Rangeley’s 11 hits in the game, including a triple. Kate Jamison scattered three hits for the pitching victory, and Rangeley committed no errors behind her.
Hayley White also had a triple in the game, and Ashley Quimby had three RBIs.
Greenville (6-4) wasted little time in the second game, scoring five runs in the top of the third inning after falling behind 1-0 in the second.
Darla Larson had a pair of hits, and Susan Muzzy rebounded from her loss in the first game to pick up the win. Ashley Quimby hit a solo home run in the third inning.
Raina Eustis had four hits on the day for Rangeley (9-4).
