TOPSHAM – Kelsey Nicolas scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter, pushing Edward Little to a double-digit lead and setting the tone for a 49-39 KVAC verdict over Mt. Ararat.
Brittney French and Allie Forgues each added 12 points for the Red Eddies (7-4), who led 15-4 at the end of the first period. Kirsten Prue chipped in seven points for EL. Jess Stahl topped the Eagles (3-8) with 12.
Oxford Hills 49, Brunswick 46
SOUTH PARIS – Terry Bunce nailed four key free throws in the fourth quarter Friday night, helping Oxford Hills overturn a modest deficit and eke out a 49-46 KVAC girls’ basketball victory over Brunswick.
Bunce finished with eight points for the Vikings (10-2). Lauren Brett, Teira Durgin and Megan Joyce each scored nine points to lead Oxford Hills. Kari Pelletier added eight, including six in the second quarter to lead the Vikings’ rally from a 16-9 deficit to a 29-25 lead.
Danyel Cousins led all scorers with 20 points for Brunswick (5-6).
Gardiner 56, Lewiston 36
LEWISTON – Lauren Gorham scored 14 points and Kitty Weymouth added 10, staking Gardiner to a 56-36 KVAC triumph over Lewiston.
Jenny Garwood added nine points for the Tigers (5-6), who jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first eight minutes.
Emily Parent boosted the Blue Devils (0-13) with seven points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Maria Labbe also registered seven points.
Berwick 51, Hebron 32
SOUTH BERWICK – Berwick Academy bolted to a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 51-32 girls’ basketball win over Hebron.
Sara Powers posted 14 points for Hebron (5-3). Kainani Stevens added 12.
