AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is preparing for the 44th year of summer day camping at Camp Connor. Open registration for the program will begin Monday, April 26. Camp directors will be on hand to answer questions from 6 to 8 p.m. in the YMCA gymnasium.
Camp Connor is a co-ed day camp located on Lower Range Pond and owned and operated by the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA. It is for youngsters entering grades one to eight.
Camp Connor 2010 will have a renewed focus on outdoor sports, boating safety and archery programming. Fishing will be added as a new activity this year. Other camp activities include archery, youth sports, crafts, team building, special events, group games, outdoor life activities, swim lessons, boats and canoes, theme weeks, family nights, field trips and nature walks.
Camp Connor will be directed by Josh LaPrell and assisted by Louise Tirabassi. LaPrell, who has a degree in early childhood education, was previously the assistant childcare director at the YMCA. He also earned his Day Camp Director Certification through the YMCA.
The YMCA provides free transportation to and from Camp Connor at designated pick-up and drop off points in Lewiston and Auburn. The YMCA also provides free pre- and post-camp care, from 7 to 8:15 a.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Registration will be available until session enrollments are full.
Camp Connor runs in nine-week sessions starting June 21. Children may sign up for all nine weeks or pick and choose individual sessions.
There will be an open house at Camp Connor from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 23, with an opportunity to visit the facilities and take a tour of camp. On Saturday, June 19, all are welcome to meet the staff at Camp Connor from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and introduce campers to their counselors and camp directors. Tours will also be given.
