Relay For Life cancer survivors to be recognized

PARIS – The American Cancer Society will host its Relay For Life of Oxford County on Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3, at Gouin Athletic Complex, South Paris. Two activities open to the public are the cancer survivors’ lap and the luminaria ceremony.

Cancer survivor recognition will open the event at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) from the Oxford Hills/Lake Region area are invited to walk the first lap of the relay.

Each cancer survivor will receive a free T-shirt and sash ribbon to wear while walking the track. The survivor and caregiver reception will follow the first lap. Speaker will be Carolyn Cilley, cancer survivor from Bridgton. Refreshments will be served.

There is no cost to participate. Cancer survivors should call Donna Goodridge, survivor chairwoman, at 207-665-3165 to preregister or register at the event. Families are welcome.

The luminaria ceremony will take place at 10 p.m. Friday to recognize those touched by cancer in the Oxford Hills area.

Individuals or companies can make contributions in memory of those lost to cancer and in honor of those who have survived.

Each will be recognized by a lighted luminaria (candle lantern) displayed at the relay. Luminaria contributions can be made by calling Susan Tilley at 743-0117.
