1922 – 2015
AUBURN — Rene Yvon Moreau, 93, former resident of 64 Wood St. in Lewiston and a resident of Schooner Estates in Auburn for the past two years, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn.
Born in Lewiston on Feb. 6, 1922, he was the son of Yvon and Virginie Albert Moreau. Educated in local schools, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater. After the war he returned to Lewiston, and on Nov. 22, 1947, he married the former Rose Ratte. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing sports, including tennis, hockey and football. He loved to read, especially scientific journals and books, and was especially interested in anthropology, astronomy, and technology. Rene was a “giver,” of both his time and attention, and will be remembered for always being a gentleman.
Survivors include his wife, Rose of Auburn and formerly of Lewiston; two sons, Marc and wife, Juliet, of Penn Valley, Pa., and Guy of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Anne Moreau Burg of Lewiston; a sister, Lucille Fraser of Auburn; four grandchildren, Michelle, Aimee, Joseph and Thomas Burg; and a great-grandson, Henry Stutzman-Burg.
