As the ranking Republican on the Appropriations Committee, Sawin Millett said his top goal this session was to control spending while negotiating the biennial budget in a bipartisan setting.
Mission accomplished, he said.
Millett’s committee had two of the toughest assignments this session: negotiating the budget and developing a bonds package.
“On the bond package, (we looked) through the lens of what we could afford,” Millett said. “When you’re borrowing money, you’re always looking at what the payback is going to be.
He served on a subcommittee for school administrative consolidation, where he represented both rural and Republican interests.
Aside from his committee, Millett was the lead sponsor of bills to include LifeFlight in tax exemptions given to ground ambulance services, and to clarify the definition of “tract or parcel of land” under the subdivision laws.
