LEWISTON — This one is for you, fellas. Are you lonely? Tired of trying to manage a household on your income alone?
The news couldn’t be better. According to a recent report from Pew Research, Lewiston-Auburn has the highest number of available women — employed women! — than anywhere else in the country.
Yahoo, right? Unfortunately, the area doesn’t do so well the other way around: The number of available employed men in the area is the lowest in the country.
The Pew Research Center analysis showed that the number of unmarried Americans is at a record high. The center compiled census data on young adults ages 25 to 34 in the country’s metropolitan areas to find the best and worst places for those young folks to find spouses.
The findings, published Oct. 2 as “Mapping the Marriage Market for Young Adults,” rank L-A best for men looking to marry a working woman; worst for women looking to marry a working man.
It’s all very romantic. And confusing.
The numbers break down this way: For every 100 young-adult men in Lewiston-Auburn, there are 99 unmarried, employed women. However, for every 100 women, only 37 single, employed men.
Pew Research doesn’t attempt to explain the vast discrepancy, it only lays out the grim numbers for all to see.
Rounding out the top five best places to find a gainfully employed single woman: Racine, Wis.; Greenville, N.C.; Anniston-Oxford-Jacksonville, Ala.; and Wausau, Wis.
And the worst: Hanford-Corcoran, Calif., a metro area between Fresno and Bakersfield. Conversely, it’s the best place to find an employed guy. The others are Mansfield, Ohio; Michigan City-La Porte, Ind.; Niles-Benton Harbor, Mich.; and Wichita Falls, Texas.
According to Pew’s findings nationwide, finding a spouse with a steady job is a high priority for 78 percent of never-married women, while only 46 percent of men are seeking the same in a partner.
If you’re a woman looking for a man with a job, you might want to examine the Pew Research map of areas of the country with the highest number.
Men looking for employed women, on the other hand, don’t need to go anywhere. Gentlemen, start wooing.
