AUBURN — Richard F. Smith, a longtime resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 13.
For 30 years, together with his wife, Mary, Dick owned Smith’s Grocery Store on the corner of Park Avenue and Lake Street in Auburn.
Dick was very proud to say that he served for several years in the Maine Army National Guard in the 1950s.
He had a unique personality; he was as comfortable talking to a politician as he was talking to a small child. Many came to him for his insights and advice, and he was happiest when helping people.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Maureen; and sisters, Mary and Ann.
He was predeceased by Mary, his beloved wife of 50 years; a daughter, Frances; and siblings, Marilyn, Bertha, Bruce and Ashley.
Dick’s favorite meal was a hot cup of tea and a doughnut, so in his memory, raise a mug and say, “Thanks, Smittee!”
