Richard R. Smith


FARMINGTON – Richard R. Smith, 63, of Middle St., Farmington, was found at his home on Saturday, April 15, where he had died of natural causes.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1943, in Farmington, a son of Glendon and Beryl (Ranger) Smith. He graduated in 1961 from Farmington High School. While in high school, he participated in down hill and cross-country skiing and baseball. He continued his education at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., graduating in 1968.

For many years, he was employed at the University of Maine, Farmington.

At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was serving as the Director of personnel.

He will be remembered as a devoted son, brother and friend. His parents, for whom he was the primary caregiver, both predeceased him in 2004.

His interests included socializing and watching sporting events, especially NASCAR races with his friends.

He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Smith and his wife, Sally, of Belgrade Lakes, and Alden Smith and his wife, Diane, of Farmington; two nephews, Randall Smith and his wife, Patti, of Brunswick, and Stephen Smith of Huntsville, Ala.; two nieces, Hillary Smith and Jessie Smith, both of Farmington; two grandnieces, Danielle Smith and Riley Smith.
