1931 – 2013
WILTON — Richard A. Russell, 81, of Wilton, passed away peacefully at home, Jan. 16.
Richard was born in Farmington, Feb. 19, 1931, the son of Archie and Helen Moore Russell. He was also raised by Lois Adams Russell after the death of his mother. He graduated from Farmington High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict. The majority of it was served on the USS Wasp.
Richard was married to Ramona Hammond on Dec. 20, 1952; they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with family and friends.
Richard was employed by Glen Hobbs, Bing Etzel, Jonathan Luce, and Bangor Savings Bank until his retirement. He also worked for many in the community as a carpenter. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, woodworking, maple syruping, golfing, camping, winters in Florida, coffee with the gang and time spent at Sand Pond. He was also actively involved in the West Farmington and Farmington Fire Department, a life member of American Legion Post No. 28, past commander and adjutant, and a member of Maine Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 20.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ramona; three daughters, Karen Russell of Farmington, Kristine Pottle and husband, Jeffrey, of New Sharon and Kathryn Wells and husband, Roger, of Wilton; two sons, Richard Jr. of Atkinson, N.H. and Steven and wife, Gladys, of Farmington; grandchildren, David and James Russell, Nathan (Kersten) and Benjamin Russell, Adam and PFC Andrew Pottle, Lindsay (Jesse) Duplin and Daniel Sullivan; and a great-granddaughter, Avery Duplin; sisters-in-law, Eunice Hammond and Rowena Swain; former daughter in-law, Terri Russell of Plaistow, N.H.; and by many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leroy and Mildred Hammond; six siblings, Dorothy Fulton, Helen Gray, Vivian Hopkins, Frank Russell, Marjorie Blanchard and Sarah Rogers.
