Rita Aline B. Baril

AUBURN – Rita Aline Bisson Baril, 88, of Foch Street, Lewiston, completed her journey on this earth at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice on Saturday, Jan. 27, surrounded by her family. Just as she always welcomed Him in her home, Jesus now welcomes her in his celestial palace.

She was born on April 5, 1918, to Mary and Albert Bisson in Sherbrooke, Canada. She was educated in Canada and took a lot of pride in the time she spent at Mont Notre Dame with her sister Francoise – they often spoke of attending afternoon tea and learning how to conduct themselves as “young ladies.”

On May 7, 1938, she married Arthur Baril, the love of her life, with whom she recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.

She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and her son, Jesus, and she was a communicant of Holy Cross Church for more than 68 years. She raised four beautiful children, making whatever sacrifices were necessary to provide them with a Catholic education. In addition to raising her own family, she also served as a second mom for so many of her nieces and nephews, her home was always open to those who needed a piece of maple walnut cake, a hug, some advise or fruit from the trees in the back yard. She will always be remembered for her humor and her positive outlook on life, even with all its ups and downs.

She was a member of Les Dames de St. Anne of Ste. Croix Parish. She was also an active member of the ACA (l’Association Canado-Americaine). After her children were grown, she worked many years at Auerbach Shoe in Brunswick, where she met her future daughter-in-law.

She leaves behind her soul mate, Arthur; her daughter, Diane Ross of La Palma, Calif.; her son, Robert, and her daughter-in-law, Joanne, of Bristol, Conn.; Joanne was more a daughter than a daughter-in-law and was able to lovingly care for her during the last weeks of her life; two sisters, Therese Provencher of Lewiston and Gisele Nezol of Auburn; her grandchildren, Brian and Gary Bulger, Jean-Pierre, Kirstie and Daniel Baril, Jeremy and Eric Goss; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly. We will all miss the mischievous twinkle in your eye and your beautiful smile.

She was predeceased by two of her children, Annette Bulger and Normand Baril; and many of her brothers and sisters.
