LEWISTON — Rita J. (Parent) Gastonguay, 91, of Monmouth died Dec. 31, at Montello Commons surrounded by her adopted, lifelong family friends, Maurice and Claudette Nadeau.
She was born in Lewiston, June 9, 1921, the daughter of Isidore and Angelina “Lina” (Potvin) Parent and she attended schools in Lewiston.
She worked at the Continental Mill until her retirement. She then became a homemaker and enjoyed life to the fullest. Aside from planting and tending to her flower garden, she enjoyed filling the bird feeders and watching the many species that surrounded her yard.
She loved to dance, go shopping, playing cards and eating out with her girlfriends. She was a member of St. Leo’s Chapel in Monmouth until it’s closing. She was a very strong, proud and beautiful lady who will be sadly and greatly missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by another very special adopted family, Scott and Sherry Buzzell, their children, Shannon and Stewart, whom Rita considered as her grandchildren and their precious dog, Samson; a sister-in-law, Irene Parent; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Reginald, who died in June 2001; a brother, Raymond Parent; and a sister, Fernande Deletetsky.
We wish to express our most sincere thanks to all the medical staff at Montello Commons, Androscoggin Hospice and Dr. Gary Rivard who all provided her with phenomenal care.
