Rita L. Parent

POLAND – Rita L. Parent, 83, formerly of Sherbrooke Avenue, Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 11, at her daughter’s home in Poland, where she had resided since this past Easter.

Born in Lewiston on Sept. 21, 1923, she was the daughter of Alfred and Eveline Fouquette Charette.

Educated in local schools, she was married to Rene J. Parent on Sept. 3, 1945. Mr. Parent passed away in 1991.

She was employed for many years as a fancy stitcher in several shoe shops in the Lewiston-Auburn area. For more than 20 years, she and her husband owned Twin City Cleaners, and after leaving the shoe shops, she worked side-by-side with her husband at the cleaners for 10 years, prior to both of them retiring.

Her favorite pastimes included visiting with her neighbors, gardening, playing cards, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband. She was an avid ice skating and tennis fan, and enjoyed talking about her favorite tennis player, Andre Agassi, with her family doctor, Dr. Ray Tardif.

A member of Holy Family Parish, she is survived by a son, Gerald P. Parent and wife, Cheryl, of Gardiner; two daughters, Suzanne Cyr of Wasilla, Ark., and Joline and husband, Donald Gayton Jr., of Poland; a sister, Jeanne D’Arc Charette Blouin of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Christopher and Nicole Parent, John Cyr IV, Stacy Cyr Maddigan, Michelle Gayton Green and Donald Gayton III; and nine great-grandchildren, Abigail, Evelyn, Patrick and Isabelle Maddigan, Delanie and Eileen Cyr, Sierra, Tyson and Savannah Green.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond Charest, Robert Charette, Richard Charette and Alfred Breton; and her beloved Shih Tzu, Mai Ling.

Her family would like to express their appreciation to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice staff for all their support and kindness, and a special thank-you to Dr. Raymond Tardif and staff for their support and friendship.
