LEWISTON — Rita Lachance Masson passed away Thursday, April 22, at her home, with her loving daughters by her side, after a long illness.
She was born in Lewiston on April 26, 1918, the daughter of Napoleon and Florida Gastonguay. She graduated from Acme Business College in 1936 and went on to graduate from Pelletier’s Beauty School in 1948. She owned and operated her own beauty salon from her home on Sabattus Street for 65 years.
She was married to the late Norman Lachance and the late Emilien Masson. She had a very active life. She loved to cook and entertain, play cards, go to plays, shop and dine out. Her many talents included playing the piano, oil painting and floral arranging.
She leaves one son, Ronald Lachance and his wife, Simonne; one daughter, Venise Lachance of Lewiston, who has been her lifeline; one adopted daughter, Pauline Levesque, whom she loved very much; two granddaughters, Cindy Thurston and her fiance, Dillon, of Bar Harbor; and Tammy Levasseur Dow and spouse, Alfred, of Bar Harbor; three grandsons, Mark Levasseur and Jeff and Steven Lachance; a son-in-law, Buzz Levasseur of Naples, Fla.; Maggie Landry and Roger Lachance of Lewiston; and Sister St. Jean D’Arc of Quebec; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a Godchild, Rita Dyer, of Augusta.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Irene Levasseur.
