Home schooling

MEXICO — The Homestart Home Schooling Support Group will host a home schooling open house and project fair from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. Saturday, May 22, at the Mexico Town Hall on Main Street.

Students will have projects on display from many subject areas and parents will be on hand to answer questions about home schooling. There will be door prizes and sample curriculum.

DIXFIELD — The American Legion Swasey-Torrey Post 100 will hold its annual Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday, May 31, at the Greenwood Cemetery War Memorial on Weld Street. The school band will join the Legion with Cheryl Briggs as guest speaker.

Story time

RUMFORD — The final Preschool Story Time for the school year will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Rumford Public Library. The theme is “picnics.” Following the story, the group will go outside for a picnic in the library park. Those attending are asked to bring a lunch and a picnic blanket. If it rains, the picnic will be held in the Public Room.

All area children ages 2 to 5 are welcome. Story time will resume in the fall.

Dempsey Center workshop

RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing in Lewiston will offer a free Jin Shin Jyutsu workshop to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. The workshop will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, in Rumford Hospital’s conference room A.

Participants may empower themselves with increased awareness of the body’s energy flow. The knowledge will aid in health and wellness and help bring personal power into life’s challenges. Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner and H.O.P.E. guide May Scott will facilitate.
