Roadrunners blank Cougars


DIXFIELD — Molly McCaffarty scattered four hits on the mound and drove in what proved to be the winning run in the first inning to lead Mt. Abram to a 2-0 shutout over Dirigo in MVC softball action on Monday.

Bridget Blood had two hits, including an insurance RBI single in the fifth, to lead the Roadrunners (1-2) offensively. McCaffarty struck out three and didn’t walk a batter to pick up the win.

Ambyr Wislon gave up six hits, walked five and struck out three to take the loss for the Cougars (2-2). Alyssa Wade cracked the game’s only extra base-hit, a double.

Leavitt 3, Nokomis 1

NEWPORT — Adrie Newton fired a two-hitter striking out eight Nokomis batters to help lead Leavitt to a 3-1 victory in class B softball.

Annie Castonguay knocked a two-run single in the top of the 5th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Shannon Clark paced the Hornets (2-3) with a pair of singles. Sara Packard took the loss for Nokomis (3-2) allowing five hits while striking out nine.

Mt. Ararat 7,

Oxford Hills 6

TOPSHAM — Emily Dunn’s RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning lifted Mt. Ararat to a 7-6 victory in KVAC softball action.

The Vikings (4-2) took the lead in the top half of the inning when the Eagles walked in the go ahead run. Miranda Riendena plated a pair of doubles while picking up the win on the mound for Mt. Ararat (3-4).

Rashonda WIlliams and Taylor Pare each had a pair of hits in the win.

Heather Verrier knocked a pair of singles for Oxford Hills in the loss.

Madison 8,

Livermore Falls 2

MADISON — Madison pounded out 11 hits scoring eight times to defeat Livermore Falls 8-2 in a MVC softball tilt.

Madison’s (4-0) Natalie Michaud ripped three singles while Kayla Belanger had a triple and a single in the win. Courtney Taylor added a two run single for the Bulldogs. Marissa Welch had a pair of singles for Andies (0-4).

St. Dom’s 5, Lisbon 4

LISBON — Sarah Gosselin had three hits and four RBI’s to help lift St. Dom’s to a 5-4 victory in MVC softball.

Lisbon scored four runs in the bottom of the first for the early lead.

Gosselin had an RBI single in the second and a two-run double in the 3rd to even the score for the Saints (3-0). Gosselin’s final RBI came in the 5th that proved to be the game winner.

Hannah Sterling earned the victory for St. Dom’s. Kimber Morse took the loss for the Greyhounds (1-2) while striking out eight.

Skowhegan 12,

Mt. Blue 3

FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue committed six errors falling to Skowhegan 12-3 in a KVAC softball match up.

Marcy Smith had an RBI single and Lindsay St. Laurent and RBI triple for the Cougars (0-6) in the loss. Katie Esty earned the victory for the Indians (3-3).

Cony 31, Lewiston 1

AUGUSTA — Cony scored 13 times in the first inning and didn’t let up in dominating Lewiston, 31-1, in KVAC softball action.

Alyssa Bennett led Cony’s 14-hit attack with three hits, while Liz Barter and Emily Soule added two triples apiece. The Rams (5-0) were helped by eight Lewiston errors, nine walks and three hit batters.

Tamara Roy had an RBI single for the Blue Devils (2-3).

Telstar 16,

Mountain Valley 1

BETHEL — Hannah Morin hit a grand slam in the second inning to kick off the scoring deluge as Telstar defeated Mountain Valley, 16-1, in MVC softball action.

Nicena Walker had a two-run single for the Rebels (4-0), while Tasha Farnham and Katie Sumner (double) chipped in with two hits apiece. Kayla Merrill took the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one walk while fanning 11. Brooke Dolloff took the loss for the Falcons (0-2).

Oak Hill 5,

Lincoln Academy 1

WALES — Oak Hill smacked 10 hits en route to a 5-1 victory over Lincoln Academy in a KVAC softball clash.

Alyssa Rouleau and Lauren Hall paced the Raiders with three hits apiece. Hall ripped a double and had a pair of RBI’s while notching the victory on the mound. Taylor Fillion also had a pair of hits and an RBI in the victory.
