Robert E. Merrill


LEWISTON – Robert E. Merrill Sr., 83, of Outlet Road, New Gloucester, passed away Saturday, April 8, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Monmouth, Oct. 20, 1922, the son of Thomas O. and Erma W. Tripp Merrill. He was educated in East Poland schools and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married Dec. 14, 1946, to Doris M. Gregory, who predeceased him June 12, 2001.

Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed for 38 years as a truck driver at Morin Brick Co. He was a member of the American Legion Post 86 of Gray and was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing and his dog “Brutis.”

He is survived by three daughters, Catherine Hill of South Carolina, Elizabeth Parsons and husband, Robert, of New Gloucester, and Debora Dupre of Livermore; three sons, Robert E. Merrill Jr. and wife, Pat, of Dayton, Michael P. Merrill of Freeport and Thomas O. Merrill of New Gloucester; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters.

In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by a son, John E. Merrill.
