Robert G. Adams


LOWELL, Mass. – Robert Gray Adams, a resident of Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford, Mass., for the past three years, and formerly of Jay, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Mass.

He was the husband of the late Harriett (Knight) Adams, who passed away in 1990 after 50 years of marriage.

He was born in Portland, the son of the late John H. and Lillian (Gray) Adams on Aug. 26, 1912. Robert graduated from Deering High School in Portland, with the class of 1930, and received his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maine. After graduation, he was employed by International Paper Co. for 43 years, working at its locations in Livermore Falls, Glens Falls, N.Y., and Jay.

Mr. Adams was actively involved in the Masons as past master and past district deputy, the Androscoggin Chapter of RAM, Scottish Rites of Lewiston, Consistory of Portland, and Kora Temple. In addition, he enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling and gardening. As a blood donor, he was only two pints short of donating 10 gallons of blood in his lifetime.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Bryant of Chelmsford, Mass., and his daughter and son-in-law, Prudence and Robert Bliss of North Attleboro, Mass.; two granddaughters, Cynthia Detscher and her husband, Mark, of Bedford, N.H., and Stacey Nassaney and her husband, Ryan, of North Attleboro, Mass.; as well as four great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father-in-law of the late Philip Bryant.
