Robert W. Akers


EAST BETHEL – Robert W. Akers, 79, formerly of Andover for many years, died Wednesday, April 19, at his residence on the Intervale Road.

He was born in Livermore on Dec. 10, 1926, a son of Bernard and Bernice (Dyke) Akers and attended schools in Livermore and Andover.

He was a self-employed logger and also worked for David Smith Logging in Andover.

He was married in Dixfield on Dec. 20, 1957, to the late Elaine Gammon who died in Norway on Oct. 5, 2001.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army as a Tech.5thgrade, 95th Ordnance Company including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.

Survivors include a daughter, Kellie Crockett and husband, Aaron, of Bethel; two sisters, Florence Merrill of Bethel and Hazel Babbs of Livermore; a brother, Walter Akers of Mexico; and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Chris Akers after a lengthy battle with cancer.
