LEWISTON — Rolland O. Madore, 86, of Lewiston, died Thursday, Jan. 3, at Marshwood Health Care Facility, with his family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston, May 21, 1926, the son of the late Oscar and Claire (Laplante) Madore and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the 27th Regiment Fifth Marine Division and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He married the former Muguette S. Gauthier in 1950. Rolland was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite pastime was sitting on “his” bench at Hannaford’s smoking a cigar and greeting the patrons. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Rolland is survived by his life companion, Muguette S. Madore of Lewiston; two sons, Daniel Madore and his wife, Karen, of Auburn and Keith Madore and his wife, Ginny Camire, of Lewiston; four daughters, Linette Martin of Hoboken, N.J., Eileen McCray of Brick, N.J., and Judith Everett and Cathy Brousseau, both of Lewiston; two sisters, Juliette Madore and Irene Morin, both of Lewiston; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Madore; and a sister, Pauline Cote.
