DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Rollande M. Grondin, 84, of Sabattus, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., with her beloved husband of 64 years, Gerard H. Grondin, at her side.
She was born in Ste. Honore, P. Quebec, Oct. 3, 1926. Rollande grew up in Canada and immigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1952. A resident of Lewiston and Sabattus for the past 47 years, Rollande was a devoted wife to her husband, Gerard. She eagerly looked forward to their daily walks on the boardwalk of Deerfield Beach, their winter residence for the past 26 years.
As the dedicated mother that she was, she nurtured and cared for her family with a kind and generous spirit. She found comfort and laughter in the simplest of things. A passion of hers was to write letters to family and friends to stay connected. Her children looked forward to her long, newsy letters, along with care packages of homemade treats and clippings of interesting articles from the local newspaper. As an outstanding cook and baker, family holidays became traditions of wonderful meals that kept her family connected to home. She particularly looked forward to the annual summer lobster party, where the extended family of children and spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came together for a fun-filled day of fishing in the back pond and family members catching up with one another over a table laden with great seafood and the first fresh pick of Jillson’s corn.
Rollande was also a gifted seamstress, who learned her craft at the early age of 12. During the Depression years, she used this skill to clothe her brothers, sisters and neighbors and her own family as they were growing up. Her skill and attention to detail were legendary to those who knew her. Rollande was a gentle soul who was always available to everyone without question and she will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Rollande is survived by her husband, Gerard Grondin and their four children and families. Their children include Guy Grondin of Sabattus, Larry Grondin and wife, Brenda, of Sabattus, Nicki Grondin and husband, Denis Delehanty, of Marietta, Ga., and Suzanne Grondin and husband, John Gervais, of Scarborough; their grandchildren, Danielle Grondin and fiance, Kenny D’Souza, Travis Grondin and wife, Stephanie, Colette Levesque and husband, Keith, Trevor Grondin and fiancee, Angela Cloutier, Megan Carey and husband, Stephen, Ryan Delehanty, Connor Gervais and Ty Gervais; six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jayden, Jarrett, Mia, Cooper and Cody; her sisters and brothers, Ghislaine Bureau of Lewiston, Lucille Quirion of Montreal, Canada, Rejeanne Begin of Montreal, Canada, Normand Roy of Montreal, Canada, Fernand Roy of Terrebonne, Canada, and Robert Roy of New Brunswick, Canada; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family from Canada, Maine, New Hampshire and Florida.
She was predeceased by her loving daughter-in-law, Irene Grondin.
