FREEPORT — The Grammy-nominated band Roomful of Blues will bring its horn-heavy section and hard-edged blues to The Venue on Saturday, March 20.
Opening for the band will be Maine solo singer/songwriter Brian Patricks.
Formed in 1967 in Providence R.I., Roomful of Blues has earned five Grammy Award nominations with its blend of swing, rock ’n’ roll, jump, blues and soul. The group has numerous other accolades to its credit, including seven Blues Music Awards and the distinction of Blues Band Of The Year in 2005.
While its membership has continued to change over the years, the band has long been respected for its musicianship featuring a stellar horn section.
Today, Roomful of Blues is an eight-piece band led by guitarist Chris Vachon and features longtime tenor and alto saxophone player Rich Lataille. This year, singer Phil Pemberton took over vocal duties, replacing Dave Howard. Other band members are bassist John Turner and drummer Ephraim Lowell, joining veteran members keyboardist Travis Colby and baritone/ tenor saxophonist Mark Earley
Patrick plays classic finger-style rhythmic guitar and harmonica. His performances combine original blues and folk music with selections by traditional and contemporary blues/folk artists.
