The pilot of a single-engine plane escaped unharmed Friday after he was forced to land the craft without the use of its landing gear.
“He landed on the belly of the aircraft,” said Rick Cloutier, manager of the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport.
The plane, which landed at about 3 p.m., did not catch fire, and no fuel leaked from it.
The identity of the pilot was not immediately available, but Federal Aviation Administration records reveal that the 1975 plane belongs to a Windham man.
Cloutier said damage to the plane was minimal and that it would likely be repaired.
