FARMINGTON — RSU 9 directors voted Tuesday to add five days to a 10-day out-of-school suspension, and 15 days of in-house suspension for a Mt. Blue High School student for a drug-related matter.

The student has served the 10-day suspension, Superintendent Tom Ward said Wednesday.

Administrators and Ward are working with the student to develop a re-entry plan, he said.

The board met in executive session for a combined two hours with the student and two other students and family members in separate sessions. The other two, one from the high school and one from the Mt. Blue Middle School, had also been suspended for 10 days for drug-related matters, Ward said.

Under state law, 10 days is the longest a principal can suspend a student without going before the school board.

The board wanted to meet with the latter two students to hear their action plans to correct their behavior, Ward said.
