RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Thursday approved a request by the Rumford Eagles to close Oxford Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, while the group holds a fundraiser and Child Advocacy Day.
The goal of the day’s event is to bring together community outlets such as police departments, fire departments, medical personnel, schools and community organizations to promote safe living.
The board also approved a Memorial Day parade permit for the American Legion. The observance on May 29 will include a parade and ceremonies at the Rotary Memorial Green in Rumford and at the Veterans Memorial Green in Mexico.
Before the meeting, a public hearing was held on the budget and warrant articles with the Budget Committee. It was sparsely attended, with very little discussion.
The 41-article warrant will be discussed again at the annual business meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Mountain Valley High School.
The vote on the town budget will be Tuesday, June 13, at the American Legion.
