Rumford winter parking ban effective Saturday

RUMFORD — Maine’s first measurable snowstorm this fall could happen this weekend, depending on the track of an approaching storm system.

A 3:42 p.m. update Wednesday from the National Weather Service in Gray said that a powerful low pressure system will develop off the coast this weekend.

“There is potential for a significant system to affect at least part of the forecast area this weekend,” the bulletin said. “However, there is still room for the forecast to change in either direction, including (moving) farther out to sea and less precipitation.”

In Rumford, the annual winter parking ban goes into effect Saturday, Nov. 1, unless selectmen change it, police Chief Stacy Carter said Wednesday afternoon in an email. However, it can’t be any later than Dec. 1, he said.

Carter said he expects it to be addressed at the next selectmen meeting Thursday, Nov. 6.

“If we get snow on Saturday, we will be putting warning cards on cars to remind (drivers) of the parking ban,” Carter said.
