Last fall, when gas prices started rising, the City Link bus that serves the Lewiston-Auburn area claimed ridership was up. I believe ridership could be higher if the bus service expanded hours of operation into the evening and included runs on Saturday and Sunday, especially on the most traveled routes.
Portland and Augusta bus companies do that. Local buses should run until 11 p.m., and also include connections with Vermont Transit or Greyhound. That would save riders from calling taxis. The expanded hours of operation would be a great help for people who want to go to the local malls or resturants as well, especially if someone doesn’t drive or have any other way to get there.
I believe that if the buses run until at least 11 p.m. daily, ridership would increase rapidly.
