Russian pianist to play Franco Center

LEWISTON — Pianist Mark Demidovich, 24, a native of Kostroma, Russia, and a graduate of the Saratov State Conservatory, will headline the program for La Rencontre on Friday, March 2, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. He will perform works by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt.

French is spoken during this popular Franco Center gathering, which begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., in Le Centre’s Heritage Hall. The menu, courtesy of Davinci’s Restaurant, will be seafood lasagna, Caesar salad, garlic knots, dessert and beverage. The $7 charge includes the meal and Demidovich’s 12:30 recital in Performance Hall. This monthly event is usually sold out, so all are encouraged to make reservations by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the Franco Center Office at 783-1585.

Demidovich received his undergraduate degree from the Saratov State Conservatory, founded in 1912, the third such institution in Russia after those established in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Over the past several years, he has given solo recitals and appeared as guest soloist with orchestras in Russia, and he has been a prize winner at several competitions, including the prestigious Maria Yudina International Competition, St. Petersburg, and the “Hopes, Talents, Masters” Competition in Dobrich-Albena, Bulgaria.

Demidovich won the Grand Prix at the Stockholm International Competition in 2010, and in August 2011, he received the Grand Prix of the LISMA International Competition held at the Long Island Conservatory, where last fall, he began his study for the coveted Artist’s Diploma with Prof. Tamara Poddubnaya, a concert pianist and teacher well-known to Franco Center audiences.

The Franco Center presents La Rencontre as a way to entertain, enjoy and reconnect with our extended Franco-American family in the area. All guests are welcome. Guests are strongly encouraged to speak in French.
