Sabattus welcomes first manager

SABATTUS – Sabattus residents and friends welcomed Gregory Gill, its first town manager, by holding a barbecue in his honor at the Sabattus Municipal Building on Route 9. The town manager was authorized by the new town charter approved last November by local voters. The charter took effect on July 1.

The barbecue was the idea of Town Manager Search Committee Chairman Norm Laplante.

There were free hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings.

The grills were staffed by Laplant and Androscoggin Sheriff Guy Desjardins, who is also a selectman.

Selectmen William Henshaw, Mark Duquette, Gino Camardese and Paul Loesberg were also present.

Items for the barbecue were provided through cash donations and food and drinks provided by area businesses and local residents. There were approximately 100 people attending.

Amedeo Lauria, a member of the Town Manager Search Committee, welcomed Gill, explained how the selection process was conducted and outlined the expectations of the new town manager. Lauria also thanked the members of the community who came together to make it happen.

Gill circulated through the crowd and shook hands with those in attendance. The event went so well that those present are looking to make resident gatherings an annual event.
