Samaritan thwarts abduction attempt

BARING (AP) – A man accused of trying to abduct a teenager who was walking along U.S. 1 was released on $2,000 cash bail Wednesday.

Reginald Storey, 44, was charged with attempted kidnapping, assault and criminal threatening on Monday after he stopped his truck, grabbed the girl and began dragging her into the cab on Monday, according to a state police affidavit.

The girl managed to break free and a motorist from Massachusetts stopped to give her a ride, troopers said. The Samaritan, who was not identified, drove the teen to a local store, where she called her mother.

From there, she was taken to the Calais Police Department.

According to the affidavit, Storey knew the victim and had been harassing her and making sexually charged comments for several weeks before the incident on U.S. 1.
