Saturday dinner, dance benefits new Legion lights

OXFORD — Sons of the American Legion will hold a dinner/dance on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Oxford American Legion as part of its project to replace the old, antique lighting with new, upgraded, energy-efficient lighting under an Affordable Energy grant awarded to the Sons.

“We are going to get one heck of a great deal through Efficiency Maine,” said Nelson “Skip” Foley, adjutant of the squadron 112. “The squadron decided to have some fundraisers in order to take advantage of the regular Affordable Energy program but this new program came up rather quickly. After hearing about it from the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, Heath Poland of Flanders Electric directed us to a seminar the group was having in Norway and we signed right up to it but we are on a deadline we need to reach.”

According to Foley, the Sons is having a raffle with a $350 grand prize to be awarded on Dec. 6 at the post. As a thank you for all those who purchased tickets, the Sons is going to put on a spread for free to anyone who shows a ticket stub at the door. There will be a number of choices available including a kids menu.

Tickets will be on sale at the door for anyone who wants a good meal, and the grand prize can be looked at as the bonus or the meal could be looked at as the bonus. Either way, Foley continued, the post will get the new efficient lighting fixtures and if all calculations are correct, the cost to the monthly post bill will be cut in half.

After the meal, there will be a separate dance featuring Tj the DJ. All are welcome to listen, dance or chat with friends. The dance will be $6 or $3 with a ticket stub for the raffle/dinner. The dance will run from 7:15 to 10 p.m.
